Joog: The term juke, as in Juke Joint or Juke Box, is believed to derive from the Gullah word joog, meaning rowdy or disorderly. This is the blog for MyJoog.com - a listing of live music that anyone can update. Here we will focus on artists, venues, and shows that we experience through our travels. The Bluegrass Legacy People's Choice Awards 2010
We've been following the The Bluegrass Legacy's People's Choice Awards 2010 Facebook contest - where you vote for artists in various categories by clicking the standard Like link. Voting ends on tax day - April 15th. I can't remember all my votes, but I know I gave The Infamous Stringdusters a lot of love, as well as Tony Trischka and Dr. Ralph Stanley. They post the current leaders, for instance in the mandolin category, Sierra Hull holds a precarious lead over Adam Steffey of The Dan Tyminski Band. On guitar, Tony Rice is the clear leader as is Jerry Douglas in the dobro category. On fiddle, Jim VanCleve has a short lead and on bass - Barry Bales, best known as the bassist for Alison Krauss and Union Station. And in the banjo category, its a close race among several artists, but Ned Luberecki, who currently plays with Chris Jones and the Night Drivers is leading. We will post the final results in mid-April.
